THE TEAM
The 45+ strong Rating team headed up by Josh Myerson is divided into three principal workstreams: Occupier Rating, Landlord/Developer Rating and Rate Management.
The Occupier Rating sub-team advises some of the UK’s largest and most recognisable occupiers across retail, hospitality, leisure, logistics, healthcare, and corporate portfolios. The team’s focus is on delivering strategic advice and appeal management to minimise rate liability and identify operational efficiencies. Clients include national brands, blue-chip occupiers, and public sector bodies.
THE ROLE
The Senior Surveyor will manage a defined client portfolio and act as a key point of contact for allocated occupier clients. They will be responsible for delivery of rating advice, appeals, and valuation work with limited supervision, while supporting the development of more junior colleagues. The role requires strong technical competence, client-handling ability, and commercial awareness aligned with Montagu Evans’ partnership ethos.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day delivery of client instructions and casework.
- Prepare and submit detailed Check, Challenge and Appeal cases.
- Lead site inspections, measurements, and valuation assessments.
- Represent clients in negotiations with the Valuation Office Agency and billing authorities.
- Support business development activity and client relationship management.
- Mentor and assist Surveyors and Graduates in professional development.
- Contribute to thought leadership, presentations and sector initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with quality, financial, and professional standards.
Qualifications
- MRICS qualified with post-qualification experience in rating or valuation.
- Demonstrable experience managing client portfolios or significant cases.
- Strong analytical and valuation skills with commercial acumen.
- Excellent communicator and negotiator.
- Ability to mentor and support more junior team members.
- Strong organisation, prioritisation and reporting capability.
- Familiarity with rating systems such as PIMS and Analyse (desirable).
