This role is to sit within our Advisory Department led by Josh Myerson and comprises 5 Teams:

  • Valuation, Asset and Investment Advisory
  • Development Advisory
  • Rating Advisory
  • Residential Valuation Advisory
  • Strategic Advisory

Advisory comprises of over 130 experts across all 3 of our national offices.

Residential Valuation Advisory (RVA) is the firm’s centre of excellence for residential-led valuation, and comprises three complementary workstreams - Valuation, Viability and New Settlements.

Currently comprising 17 people, the team is looking to grow.

RVA is closely aligned with the firm’s planning and development focus and offers considerable growth potential.

Residential is the largest, most dynamic sector in UK real estate and the New Settlements team focuses on advising on housing and land matters which are key to the wider residential sector.

Our team is involved in the delivery of some of the largest residential led schemes in the UK.

The market is constantly evolving, and our clients need expert advisors to help them navigate the challenges and opportunities the sector brings.

RVA provides a range of consulting and technical disciplines, advising private and public sector landowners, as well as registered providers, developers, housebuilders and funders on various development and investment matters.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking an exceptional and enthusiastic Surveyor/Senior Surveyor, with 1-3 years post qualification experience, to join the New Settlements workstream of RVA, based in our London office.

The New Settlements team has a blend of public sector (Homes England, DIO, Local Authorities) and private sector clients (Places for People, Hill, Taylor Wimpey, Private landowners – including charities, Land Promoters).

The team supports clients in providing consultancy from a development and valuation perspective, providing advice on wide ranging matters such as land assembly for large housing projects, land disputes, land promotion and landowner agreements whilst working closely with Montagu Evans planning team and Legal Advisors on Expert Witness instructions.

The team is also looking to grow its presence in the land disposal market working alongside colleagues within Development and Strategic Advisory on greenfield land opportunities, linked to the Firm’s wider strategic land advisory offer, that the New Settlements team leads on.

Examples of projects that the team has been involved in includes

  • Homes

England: Advising on major residential-led sites including Cambridge East, Brookleigh, West of Ifield, Hartley Gardens and Chalgrove, ranging from 1,800–10,000 homes, with advice covering valuation, development consultancy, land assembly, masterplanning and disposal.

Also providing disposal advice on serviced land at The Steadings, Cirencester for c.270 homes and disposal strategy on sites across the South East.

  • Public sector and local authority work: Providing valuation, development consultancy, disposal and delivery advice for clients including DIO, Guildford Borough Council, Oxford City Council, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and LB of Enfield.
  • Strategic land and promotion agreements: Advising landowners, schools and promoters on major residential opportunities, including sites in Ashford, Warlingham, Wokingham, Hertfordshire, North St Albans, Newbury and schemes ranging from 50 to 5,000 units.
  • Major development and land assembly projects: Supporting complex mixed-use and residential schemes including Temple Works Leeds, Gilston Park Harlow and a potential landmark development near Waterloo Station, with advice spanning CPO, overage, land assembly, viability and delivery strategy.

The candidate will be encouraged to engage in appropriate Client Relationship Management and Business Development initiatives and be expected to liaise with clients directly.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and analysis of data in order to support a range of consultancy, valuation and agency advice
  • Preparing appraisals and valuations
  • Preparing high quality written advice for clients including some provision of Red Book valuation reports
  • Liaising with clients and wider project teams to discuss advice
  • Attend and lead client meetings and presentations
  • Providing support and training to graduates within the team
  • Collaborating with a range of teams across the firm and taking an active role in firm-wide subject matter expertise areas
  • Raising your own and the team’s profile internally and externally with peers
  • Working with colleagues on business development activities including input into tender opportunities
  • Any additional duties as reasonably requested

Qualifications

  • RICS qualified and an RICS Registered Valuer (1-3 years Post Qualified Experience)
  • Knowledge of the planning system
  • Good knowledge of Argus Developer, with a willingness to become expert
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive
  • Personable and capable of working positively within a team
  • Solution-orientated
  • Strong attention to detail and high service delivery skills
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work on multiple projects at any one time.
