THE TEAM
Planning is one of the largest departments at Montagu Evans and one of the biggest Planning departments operating in the UK. Our Commercial Planning Team advises many of the country's leading developers, operators, financial institutions and landowners on retail and leisure, industrial and logistics, data centres, life sciences and other R&D (including advanced manufacturing), roadside services and town centre regeneration. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work across a variety of projects within the commercial sector, particularly focusing on retail and leisure, industrial and logistics, and data centres. Our clients in these sectors include Realty Income, British Land, The Crown Estate, M&S, CyrusOne, CloudHQ, Greystoke Land, Siemens, Royal London, Redevco, The Arch Company and Mileway. We are a team led by six partners and are looking for people who want to share our dedication to client service and our ambition to grow. Montagu Evans has a strong track record of supporting career development, with many of our Partners having started their career journey as graduates.
OVERVIEW
The role will offer the right candidate a great career opportunity to work within a busy and growing team. The successful candidate will work for multiple partners on a variety of commercial projects, providing a wide breadth of experience and an opportunity to develop specialisms of interest. All team members have the opportunity for direct contact with clients, other professionals and local authorities, facilitating exceptional career development.
Depending on the level of the position, responsibilities may include:
- Working with Partners and independently to help develop planning strategies, prepare programmes and lead external project teams;
- Drafting and reviewing reports, coordinating the preparation and submission of planning applications/appeals/representations;
- Providing planning advice to clients and leading internal and external meetings (e.g. project team and LPA);
- Contributing towards client development and growth by building individual and team profiles in target sectors both internally and externally;
- Setting effective fees and overseeing budgets to help maintain profitability of projects;
- Contributing to the development and training of planners and senior planners within the team;
- Input into team practices (including integration of AI and new working tools) and thought leadership as part of a comprehensive approach to continued professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Commercially minded planner with a clear focus on client service delivery.
- Some experience in retail policy assessments preferred.
- RTPI and/or RICS (P&D) qualified.
- A team player who enjoys working collaboratively within teams and across departments.
- Strong analytical skills to provide an evidence-based approach to problem solving.
- A good communicator, both written and verbal.
