Most of our Walton-on-Thames rota sits inside the loop the river makes between Walton Bridge and the bend below Hurst Park. If you've cleaned anywhere along that strip, you'll already know the houses we mean.
We're hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Walton-on-Thames at £13 to £15 an hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly visits across KT12.
That sentence is the headline. The rest of this ad is the small print, the local stuff, and an honest note on what the work is actually like in this part of Elmbridge.
Where the work is
The rota covers a real mix of housing. There are riverside houses backing onto the Thames Path between the new Walton Bridge (the sixth on that site, opened in July 2013, the one with no piers in the river) and Cowey Sale. There are Edwardian villas along Hersham Road, 1930s semis around Hersham village, modern flats above and around the redevelopment near The Heart shopping centre off New Zealand Avenue, and a band of post-war estates up around Walton North and the Ambleside Avenue side.
Most jobs are maintenance cleans in private homes. A handful of small offices on the High Street and Bridge Street. Two end-of-tenancy slots a month, usually booked through the letting agents in town, places like Martin and Co at 49 High Street or Castle Wildish on the Hersham side.
Hurst Park is technically across in West Molesey, but a chunk of our riverside work sits near it because the housing built on the old racecourse (the last race ran in 1962) is full of the kind of three-bed homes that book a regular cleaner.
Pay, plain
£13 to £15 an hour. Where you land in that range depends on whether you've got proper experience and whether you're driving. Bank transfer, every Friday.
We pay weekly because monthly is rough when you're new and waiting on a first wage.
For comparison, agencies in this area quote anywhere between £13 and £25 an hour to clients. The cleaner usually sees the lower end of that. We've tried to land somewhere fair without pretending we're paying London Living Wage rates we aren't.
Getting around
Walton-on-Thames station is on the South Western main line into Waterloo, which mostly matters because clients use it. For you, the buses are what count. The 458, 461, 555 and 564 all run through Walton and along Hersham Road, so most of the rota is reachable without a car. The 564 stops by 18:00 on weekdays though, so late jobs need a plan.
If you do drive, parking around the Heart Centre is metered and the residential side roads off Bridge Street get busy mid-morning. We tell you up front when a job is a walk-from-the-bus one and when it's not.
What we want
- You've cleaned before, properly. Either professionally or as a serious housekeeper. We're not training from zero on this round.
- You turn up. The Riverhouse Barn arts crowd up by the river have lost cleaners over no-shows; that's not the agency we want to be.
- You text the night before if a job has to move.
- Right-to-work paperwork in order. We check at the first meeting.
What we don't ask for: a CV, a covering letter, or a long form to fill in.
