Part‑time domestic cleaner wanted in St Albans at £15 an hour, paid weekly, on regular fortnightly rounds across AL1, AL3 and AL4.

That sentence is the answer to the obvious question. The rest of this ad explains how the work actually shapes up around this city, and what we want from you.

If you've cleaned in St Albans before, you'll know the rhythm already.

The Wednesday and Saturday market closes off St Peter's Street from Market Place up to the Catherine Street junction between 8:30am and 4:30pm, which means we don't book first morning slots in the AL1 streets either side of the Clock Tower on those two days.

Park around French Row, walk in.

It saves a row with a stallholder over a loading bay.

Our St Albans rota is a real mix of housing.

Most weeks you'll be in Marshalswick on the inter‑war and 1930s semis around The Quadrant and St Mary's Church, or in Fleetville on the Edwardian terraces north of Hatfield Road.

We do a steady run of Georgian and listed townhouses in the AL3 streets close to the cathedral, a few mock‑Tudor houses out toward Park Street, and modern flats in the new blocks near the City station.

Sopwell gets us the Victorian terraces off London Road and a handful of the Cottonmill council‑built places from the 1950s.

Different houses, different cleaning kit needed, and we'll be straight with you about that on day one.

Pay is £15 an hour. Weekly. Bank transfer every Friday.

That sits above the National Living Wage and above what most of the local high‑street agencies are paying their cleaners.

Cleanhome St Albans currently charges clients from £17.25 an hour and pays its cleaners less than that out of it.

We pay £15 to you.

We do not pay monthly because monthly is awful when you're new and waiting on a first wage.

St Albans is a parking city.

AL1 is mostly residents‑only or pay‑and‑display in the centre, and the council has been firm on that for years.

We'll tell you in advance whether a job has off‑street parking, a client‑paid visitor permit, or a five‑minute walk from a free street.

Most of the city centre rounds in AL3 around the Verulamium Park edge and Holywell Hill are easier on foot from the City station than they are by car.

If you don't drive, you can still take on most of our AL1 and AL3 list.

Marshalswick and the AL4 streets toward Sandridge are easier with a car.

Trains help us.

The Thameslink to St Pancras runs every 10 minutes and the fast one is 21 minutes door to door, so a few of our owners commute and want their flat done while they're in the office.

Those are the most flexible jobs on the rota.

What we want from you

  • You've cleaned before, properly, whether for an agency, a hotel, a private client, or seriously at home. We are not training from zero this round.
  • You'll show up.

Cleanhome and Poppies, the two bigger St Albans firms we keep losing clients from, both had no‑shows over the winter and the clients moved across to us.

We are not going to be that firm.

  • Send a text the night before if you need to swap a job around. We can usually move it; we cannot move it at 8am.

What we don't want

a CV, a covering letter, or a long form.

Application details

To apply, message the number on this page with your name, the postcode you live in (or nearest), and one sentence on where you've cleaned before.

We reply inside 48 hours.

If we want to meet, we meet at a pub off the city centre on a Wednesday morning, usually The Goat on Sopwell Lane because the back room is quiet.

Bring photo ID and a recent utility bill so we can do the right‑to‑work check on the spot.

That is the whole process.

Hiring organisation: Monster Cleaning, trading since 2014. Posted: 28 June 2026. Closes: 9 September 2026 unless filled sooner.
