Knutsford runs on a different clock to most of the rota. The town centre empties out by half five, the school traffic on Bexton Road clears by nine, and a fair number of our regulars expect us in and out before they're back from the school run or a meeting in town. We're hiring a part-time domestic cleaner in Knutsford at £14 to £16 an hour, paid weekly on Fridays, on regular rounds across WA16.
That sentence is the answer to the obvious question. The rest of this ad is the small print and a few honest notes about what cleaning a Knutsford round is actually like.
The patch we cover
WA16 is bigger than most people guess. The town centre, King Street and Princess Street, is one band. Bexton Road, Cranford Avenue and the streets running south to the bypass are another. Then there's the outer ring of villages that sit inside the same postcode: Mobberley on the WA16 7 sector, Toft on the southern side off the A50, Over Tabley and Plumley and Pickmere on the WA16 0 side towards the M6. We work all of it. If you live anywhere in WA16 the round will fit around you, and if you live in Mobberley or Toft we will deliberately give you the rounds nearest your front door.
What the housing actually looks like
The housing tells you most of what the work is.
Central Knutsford is Victorian and Edwardian villas, mostly red brick, often three storeys with a basement kitchen still in use. Princess Street and King Street have a band of Georgian period properties above the shops, some of them flats now, some still single houses. The Heath end runs into 1930s semis on Toft Road and the streets either side. Bexton Road and the southern edge of town are where the very large detacheds sit, gated drives, four and five bedrooms, granite worktops, Karndean floors that mark if you wet-mop them wrong. We'll show you on the first visit.
Around the station and into the new builds off the bypass, you'll find the modern apartments, smaller, easier to clean, often investor-owned and let through Irlams or Acobas. Out in Mobberley and Toft the work is the very large detached again, bigger plots, longer drives, often a separate utility room and boot room that take their own time.
Pay, plainly
£14 to £16 an hour. Knutsford and the WA16 villages sit inside what the property pages still call Cheshire's Golden Triangle, or the footballers' belt, and that's reflected in our rate. Higher than the Northern average, well above the National Living Wage, and on the upper end of what the Knutsford agencies pay their cleaners directly.
Where you sit on the band depends on the round. Town centre flats and the smaller Victorian terraces sit at the lower end. The very large detacheds on Bexton Road, Toft Road, and out towards the gated developments off Mobberley Road sit at the top. Regular fortnightly clients pay the same rate as one-off end-of-tenancy work. Bank transfer every Friday. We don't pay monthly because monthly is awful when you're new and waiting on a first wage.
For comparison, Well Polished list a customer rate of £18.95 an hour for their Knutsford rounds; that's what a client pays the agency before any cut. Our £14 to £16 is the cleaner's actual hourly figure, into your bank, no admin deductions.
Two days that move the rota
Two dates in the year matter for how we plan a Knutsford week.
The first is Knutsford Royal May Day. In 2026 the procession sets off at 2pm on Saturday 2 May, from town through to the Heath where the May Queen is crowned, and the funfair runs on the Heath from 30 April to 4 May. Town-centre parking goes early, King Street is closed to traffic for the procession route, and the Heath is unusable for the long bank-holiday weekend. We don't book town-centre jobs that morning. If your round is Saturday and runs through King Street or Adams Hill, we move you to Friday or to the following Tuesday.
The second is Tatton Park's high-season weekends. The estate sits at WA16 6QN, the high season runs 28 March to 25 October 2026, the mansion opens daily 10am to 7pm except Mondays, and the entry road off the A5034 backs up on Saturday and Sunday mornings between half nine and noon. If your round is on the Mobberley side and depends on coming in past Tatton's gate, we'll have moved you to a midweek slot anyway.
Trains, buses, and the parking
If you don't drive, the rota still works. Knutsford station is on Toft Road, WA16 0PA, with hourly Northern services in both directions, towards Manchester Piccadilly via Altrincham and towards Chester via Northwich, plus extra trains at peak. Sundays are two-hourly. The bus from the station up into the town centre takes about six minutes on foot. Mobberley and Plumley both have their own stations on the same line, so a cleaner living in either village can reach the town-centre rounds without a car.
If you do drive, two practical things. Knutsford has CPZ-style permit zones around the centre, particularly the streets either side of King Street, and the council has been tightening short-stay bays. We'll tell you straight when a job needs a permit and which ones don't. The other one is school-run timing on Bexton Road and Manchester Road. Half eight to nine, and three to half three, is queue-and-crawl. We don't book back-to-back rounds across that window.
Where the end-of-tenancy work comes from
A meaningful share of our Knutsford bookings come through letting agents. Irlams Estate Agents at 103 King Street picked up Best Estate Agent in Knutsford at the British Property Awards 2024 and run a busy lettings book across town and into Mobberley. Wright Marshall on Princess Street cover the same patch. Acobas on Princess Street are smaller but consistent. Meller Braggins are a long-standing Knutsford office working sales and lettings across the Cheshire patch. Those are tight-window jobs, usually a single day between tenants, sometimes a same-day turnaround when a check-out runs late. If you can do those days at short notice, say so when you apply.
Who we'd like to hear from
- You've cleaned before, paid or seriously domestic. We are not training from zero on this round.
- You answer your phone, or text back inside an hour or two.
- You'll send a text the night before if a job needs to move. Reschedules we can absorb. No-shows we cannot.
- Right-to-work paperwork on day one. Photo ID and a recent utility bill, no exceptions.
What we don't ask for: a CV, a covering letter, references in triplicate.
