Help get one of the UK's most significant energy infrastructure projects off the ground.

Location - Suffolk - site-based hybrid (1 day from home)

Sector - Energy / major civil infrastructure

The opportunity

We are supporting a landmark low-carbon energy project, one of the most significant infrastructure investments in the UK. It is designed to provide reliable, clean power for generations.

The programme is now moving from development towards full construction, and the first major packages of enabling and earthworks are about to begin. That is where you come in.

As Pre-Construction Manager, you will make sure every enabling and earthworks package is genuinely ready before a single machine mobilises. Working within a collaborative alliance of client and contractor partners, you will bring together engineering, programme, commercial, procurement, environmental, consenting and supply chain teams. Together you will clear the path to a safe, efficient start on site.

This is a rare chance to shape the opening chapter of a nationally significant project and to see your work in the ground for decades to come.

What you'll do

  • Own readiness. Build and run readiness plans for enabling and earthworks, setting the gates and assurance checks each package must pass before work starts.
  • Prepare the work fronts. Lead readiness for site establishment, temporary works and logistics, utility diversions, access roads, environmental mitigation, and bulk earthworks and excavation.
  • Test the plan. Challenge methods, sequencing, resourcing and logistics through buildability reviews, so construction teams inherit work fronts that are ready to deliver.
  • Clear the blockers. Spot and resolve risks and constraints early, from permits and approvals to design information and interfaces, and escalated what needs escalating.
  • Connect the teams. Act as the link between the client, alliance partners, designers, environmental and consenting specialists, the supply chain and regulators.
  • Line up the supply chain. Work with commercial and procurement colleagues so plant, materials, labour and specialist subcontractors arrive when the programme needs them.
  • Report with clarity. Create readiness dashboards and KPIs, brief senior leaders and support stage-gate and mobilisation decisions.
  • Lead on safety. Champion the highest standards of health, safety, security and environmental care, in line with CDM, permit conditions and the expectations of a highly regulated sector.

What you'll bring

  • Substantial experience on major projects in nuclear, rail, highways, energy or other large-scale infrastructure.
  • A strong background in pre-construction, construction readiness, mobilisation or project management.
  • Hands-on experience delivering enabling works and earthworks programmes on complex sites.
  • A solid working knowledge of temporary works, construction logistics and enabling infrastructure.
  • Strength in programme integration and risk management, with good commercial and procurement awareness.
  • A track record of bringing multidisciplinary teams together in tightly regulated settings.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the presence to influence at senior level.
  • A degree in civil engineering, construction management, project management or a related subject. Membership of ICE, APM, CIOB or an equivalent body is a plus.
  • Legacy: help deliver a project that will support the UK's net zero future for generations to come.
  • Timing: join at the critical point where development turns into delivery, and help set the tone for everything that follows.
  • Culture: work in a genuine one-team alliance built on humility, positivity, respect, solidarity and clarity.
  • Growth: gain experience on a project of national importance alongside some of the best people in the industry.
