Senior Associate - Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor

Location: London

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor to lead pre-contract commercial activities on a major energy interconnector infrastructure project. This role focuses on driving the pre-contract strategy, establishing commercial evaluation frameworks, negotiating with tier-one bidders, and managing the procurement process through to contract award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Contract Strategy & Setup: Design, establish, and implement robust commercial evaluation models and standard conditions of contract tailored to major energy infrastructure schemes.
  • Tender & Commercial Evaluation: Lead the rigorous commercial analysis and evaluation of bidder submissions to ensure value, compliance, and alignment with project objectives.
  • Contract Negotiations: Drive high-level commercial negotiations with prospective bidders, resolving commercial queries and refining contractual terms up to final contract award.
  • Risk & Financial Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial risks during the procurement phase, setting up effective post-contract change management and cost control frameworks.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a key commercial advisor, interfacing seamlessly across multi-disciplinary project teams, legal advisors, and joint venture client organizations.

Requirements & Experience

  • Industry Experience: Extensive background operating as a Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor within major energy, utility, or interconnector infrastructure projects. Experience working with or alongside major transmission system operators or energy joint ventures is highly desirable.
  • Pre-Contract Expertise: Proven track record leading pre-contract commercial operations from model development through to tender evaluations and contract execution.
  • Contractual Knowledge: Deep expertise in drafting and negotiating complex standard construction and engineering contracts (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, or bespoke infrastructure agreements).
  • Leadership & Professional Standing: Strong negotiation, analytical, and client-facing skills with a track record of operating at a Senior Associate level. Professional chartership (e.g., MRICS) is preferred.
