Researcher/Writer

Monocle is looking for a sharp, curious and globally minded Researcher/Writer to join our editorial team at Midori House.

This is a hands-on role for a journalist who can spot a strong story, find the right people to tell it and bring it to life across print, digital, newsletters, radio and events. You will research, fact-check, pitch and write, while taking ownership of everything from features and photoshoots to product call-ins and our online City Guides.

You will need excellent editorial judgement, impeccable organisation and the ability to move quickly between stories, platforms and priorities. You will understand Monocle’s distinctive perspective and be excited by the breadth of what we cover, from international affairs and business to design, travel, culture and fashion.

What you’ll do

  • Research, pitch, report and write original stories aligned with Monocle’s editorial outlook
  • Take ownership of allocated stories, pages and online City Guides from initial idea through to publication
  • Research and fact-check content with accuracy and journalistic rigour
  • Plan and deliver features, interviews, photo shoots and product call-ins
  • Contribute across Monocle’s magazine, digital platforms, newsletters, radio, events and special projects
  • Develop relationships with new and existing contributors, interviewees and contacts around the world
  • Collaborate closely with our editors, sub-editors, art, photography and commercial teams
  • Represent Monocle professionally when working with guests, interviewees, readers and high-profile figures

What we’re looking for

  • At least two to three years’ experience within a busy, globally minded editorial environment
  • Strong writing, research, editing and fact-checking skills
  • Sound editorial judgement and an instinct for angles that feel relevant and distinctive to Monocle
  • A developing international network of contacts and the confidence to build new relationships
  • A genuine interest in global affairs, business, design, travel, culture and the way people live
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage several deadlines at once
  • A proactive, resourceful approach and a willingness to get involved wherever needed
  • The flexibility to travel when stories and projects require it
