Features Editor

The role

Monocle is looking for an experienced Features Editor to help shape our editorial agenda across print, digital, audio and books.

This is an exciting opportunity for a curious, globally minded editor with outstanding editorial judgement and a talent for uncovering original stories.

Working across international affairs, business, design, culture, travel, fashion and more, you'll commission distinctive journalism that reflects Monocle's unique perspective and broad editorial ambition.

We're looking for someone who thrives on ideas.

You'll spot stories before they become obvious, identify new voices and contributors, and work closely with our writers and editors to produce thoughtful, intelligent journalism across every Monocle platform.

Whether commissioning a feature for the magazine, developing a newsletter, shaping a radio programme or contributing to a book or special publication, you'll play a central role in defining our editorial output.

This is a highly collaborative position.

You'll work closely with colleagues across our editorial and commercial teams, mentor junior journalists, help expand Monocle's global contributor network and ensure every story meets the high editorial standards our readers expect.

  • What you'll be doing…
  • Commission and edit original journalism across Monocle's magazines, website, newsletters, radio, books and special projects.
  • Identify distinctive stories, fresh perspectives and emerging voices from around the world.
  • Work across a broad range of subjects, including global affairs, business, design, culture, travel and fashion.
  • Collaborate with editors, writers and correspondents to develop ambitious editorial projects from idea through to publication.
  • Report and write stories where appropriate, bringing your own editorial insight to the team.
  • Build and nurture relationships with freelance contributors and correspondents, continually broadening Monocle's network of voices.
  • Mentor and support junior journalists, helping them develop their reporting, commissioning and editing skills.
  • Work alongside our commercial team on bespoke editorial projects, ensuring they meet Monocle's editorial standards and are delivered successfully.

We're looking for someone who...

  • Has at least five years' experience as a journalist or editor, with a strong track record of feature writing, commissioning reporting and editing.
  • Is an exceptional editor with outstanding editorial judgement and a flair for identifying original and unique stories.
  • Has broad intellectual curiosity and enjoys working across multiple subjects rather than a single specialist beat.
  • Has experience commissioning and editing freelance contributors and building relationships with talented writers.
  • Is an excellent communicator who enjoys collaborating with colleagues across different editorial disciplines.
  • Has experience or the ambition to coach, mentor or develop more junior journalists.
  • Is highly organised, proactive and comfortable managing multiple projects at once.
  • Shares Monocle's interest in global affairs, business, entrepreneurship, design and culture, and is excited to contribute across every editorial platform.

This role is based at Midori House in leafy Marylebone, London, 5 days per week onsite. Applicants should have the right to live and work in the UK.
