Monocle is looking for a sharp, curious and commercially minded Creative Solutions Editor to join our team at Midori House in Marylebone. This is not a conventional editorial position. Sitting within Monocle’s commercial team, you will create intelligent, beautifully executed content for globally recognised partners who share our commitment to quality, innovation and thoughtful storytelling.
Working across Monocle and our sister title, Konfekt, you will help to shape distinctive campaigns spanning print, digital, newsletters, audio, social media and live experiences. You will move confidently between international affairs, design, travel, business, fashion, hospitality and culture and might be developing the editorial idea behind a new partnership one day, interviewing an industry leader the next and editing a feature or script ahead of publication later that week. The challenge is finding the point at which a partner’s objectives, Monocle’s editorial sensibility and the interests of our audience come together.
What you’ll be doing:
- You will take ownership of the editorial side of multiple commercial projects, from the first creative conversation through to final delivery. This will include researching subjects, identifying strong angles, writing and editing copy, commissioning contributors and working through feedback and approvals with clients and colleagues.
- You will collaborate with teams across editorial, commercial, design, photography, production, digital and project management, contributing ideas at the earliest stages and helping to ensure that every element of a campaign feels cohesive, considered and unmistakably Monocle.
- This is a hands‑on role for someone who enjoys writing and editing but can also step back and see the wider creative and commercial opportunity. You will need to balance several projects and deadlines, respond constructively when briefs evolve and remain calm and exacting when the pace picks up.
About you:
- You will be an excellent writer and editor with experience creating high-quality editorial or commercial partnership content across several platforms.
- Your background is likely to include magazines, publishing or an equivalent media environment and you will understand how strong editorial ideas are developed, produced and delivered.
- You will know how to interpret a client brief.
- You will have a strong ear for tone, meticulous attention to detail and the confidence to protect editorial quality while finding constructive solutions for commercial partners.
- You will also bring strong editorial judgement and an instinct for identifying an original angle.
- Experience writing and editing for different formats, audiences and platforms.
- A clear understanding of editorial and creative workflows, including feedback, approvals and production deadlines.
- The ability to manage several projects without losing sight of the details.
- A broad curiosity about the world and an interest in Monocle’s core subject areas.
- An appreciation of excellent design, photography and visual storytelling.
- A collaborative, resourceful and solutions-focused approach.
- Experience commissioning and editing freelance contributors would be valuable.
- Familiarity with InDesign, Keynote or WordPress would also be helpful, though these are not essential.
Why Monocle?
Since launching in London in 2007, Monocle has grown from an independent magazine into an international media brand encompassing print, digital, a round‑the‑clock radio station, books, newsletters, events, shops, e‑commerce and cafés. Our commercial partnerships are equally varied. We work with ambitious organisations around the world to create campaigns that are intelligent, original and beautifully produced, rather than content that simply looks or sounds like advertising. You will join a curious, creative and international group of people who care deeply about ideas, language and quality. It is an opportunity to do thoughtful editorial work while developing a strong understanding of brands, audiences and the commercial side of an independent global media business.
