Principle and business owner of Monkey Music Vale & Bridgend and Monkey Music Cardiff

Monkey music is an award-winning curriculum that is currently delivered to over 500 families locally in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan & Bridgend.

As part of a large franchise network Monkey music teachers are thoroughly trained and well supported during their careers as Monkey music teachers.

Teachers come from all different backgrounds but it is essential that you have a very strong singing voice and/or experience of performance, are passionate about music, have a desire and preferably experience of working with young children, are able to drive and have your own car, are committed and reliable, have a confident personality and a strong musical background and singing voice.

Monkey Music teachers are self-employed. This means hours are not guaranteed but class schedules are agreed with the franchise manager. Typically, a teacher may teach 3-5 half our classes at a venue on a day. Extra work may be available at nurseries, promotional classes and being able to do parties on weekends would be a requirement but is not a regular occurrence. There is also the opportunity to do holiday workshops during school holidays since Monkey music classes run term time only.

Monkey Music teachers are paid per class they teach and the rate reflects that extra work is needed to learn the lesson plans (all provided) and to set up the venue and complete basic admin (registers, payments etc) The kit is extensive and would need to be stored at the teacher’s home.

Teachers are paid between £20-30 per teaching hour depending on experience and £50 for weekend parties.

Monkey Music teachers are required to audition and interview before being offered a place on a monkey music Teacher Training course. As teachers are self-employed they are expected to contribute £40 towards the cost of this course. They are also required to undergo a DBS check through Monkey music which currently costs the teacher £58 and first aid training (the appointed person 4-hour course) which is approximately £35.

After training you would need to take part in regular teacher forums. These forums are an excellent opportunity to meet other teachers across the franchise network and offer fantastic continuing professional development. Currently our face to face forums are on hold due to the pandemic but we have a team of 7 teachers in South Wales and regularly meet to plan and review our classes. When we are able to, forums will resume back in Harpenden. As a self-employed consultant you would be required to meet these costs and ongoing a minimum of every two years at £40 per training session.

Work is mainly in Cardiff but you would be required to travel to any venue in Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend when required.

At Vale & Bridgend we currently have a team of six teachers (including myself) and an administrator. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is flexible on days and there is a large number of classes available to successful teachers. If you would like to apply for the post, please complete the attached form and forward with CV.
