We are looking for a Software Engineering Lead who can be responsible for the technical leadership, management, and delivery of MoneyPlus’ back-office systems and customer-facing applications. The Lead Engineer balances hands-on technical oversight with leadership responsibilities, ensuring engineering work is aligned with business and regulatory requirements.

Line management of software developers, including performance reviews, feedback, and career development.

Establishing and enforcing coding standards, development processes, and best practices.

Resource allocation and workload planning across engineering projects.

Ownership of architecture and technical decisions within the PHP Laravel, React, MySQL, and AWS stack.

Responsibility for system performance, security, resilience, and maintainability.

Oversight of monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling.

DevOps & Infrastructure:

  • Implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines to support frequent, reliable releases.
  • Management of AWS environments, including EKS, RDS, S3, CloudFront, and related services.
  • Governance of deployment processes and environment configuration across development, staging, and production.
  • Monitoring and optimisation of cloud infrastructure for scalability, cost-efficiency, and resilience.
  • Oversight of deployments and release management processes.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory, security, and data protection requirements.
  • Liaising with Operations and Compliance to ensure systems meet business and regulatory needs.
  • Communicating technical decisions and risks to senior stakeholders.

Technical Skills:

  • PHP (Laravel): Advanced knowledge of framework features and back-end application design.
  • React: Ability to guide front-end architecture and maintain consistency across applications.
  • MySQL: Skilled in schema design, optimisation, and data integrity management.
  • AWS: Experienced in cloud infrastructure, including EKS, RDS, S3, and CI/CD.
  • Security: Strong understanding of secure coding practices and data protection requirements.

Management Skills:

  • Line Management: Experience managing developers, setting objectives, and reviewing performance.
  • Coaching: Ability to mentor and develop engineers at different career stages.
  • Resource Planning: Skilled in capacity planning, workload allocation, and recruitment.
  • Process Discipline: Enforces coding standards, reviews, and development best practices.
  • Delivery Management: Proven ability to deliver projects on time and to agreed standards.
