Why do we need you? The Head of Data is accountable for ensuring that financial and enterprise data is trusted, controlled, compliant, and decision-ready. The role focuses on protecting data integrity for financial reporting, funding, regulatory compliance, and performance management, while enabling insight, efficiency and digital transformation via the application of Data & Decision Science.

What do we need you to do?
- Strategic Accountabilities • Develop, own and deliver the enterprise data strategy aligned to finance, risk, and corporate objectives. • Treat data as a core financial and risk asset, with governance embedded into processes. • Act as the senior authority on financial data integrity, transparency, and control.
- Data Governance Leadership • Establish and sponsor the enterprise Data Governance Framework with CFO oversight. • Chair or support Data Governance Forum. • Define clear accountability for data across the organisation. • Integrate data governance with financial control, audit, and risk management frameworks.
- Data Ownership and Control • Define data ownership for core domains. • Enable Data Owners and Stewards with clear responsibilities. • Ensure consistent definitions for KPIs, metrics, and regulatory reports. • Reduce reconciliations and manual adjustments through improved data quality.
- Data Quality and Reporting Confidence • Establish data quality standards aligned to audit and regulatory expectations. • Own data quality KPIs for financial and management reporting. • Ensure traceability and lineage from source systems to disclosed numbers. • Support audit readiness through strong documentation and controls.
- Data Lifecycle, Risk, and Compliance • Oversee end-to-end data lifecycle management. • Ensure compliance with GDPR, retention, and financial record-keeping obligations. • Partner with Risk, Legal, and Internal Audit on data risk and controls. • Ensure access controls and segregation of duties for sensitive data.
- Technology and Enablement • Set direction for data platforms and reporting architectures. • Sponsor data governance, quality, and metadata tools. • Enable self-service reporting while maintaining control and consistency. • Reduce dependency on spreadsheets and shadow data.
- Change, Culture, and Capability • Embed data ownership and accountability within the business. • Raise data literacy and awareness across the broader business. • Balance governance with pragmatism to avoid slowing decision-making. • Act as a change leader for data transformation.
What skills and experience do we need you to have? While not essential, desirable skills and experience would include:
- Decision Science – Experience using advanced analytics, predictive modelling and data-driven decisioning to improve customer outcomes, operational performance and commercial results.
- Credit Risk – Strong understanding of credit risk principles, risk strategy development and the use of data to support responsible lending and effective customer management.
- IFRS 9 Modelling – Experience overseeing IFRS 9 expected credit loss modelling, including model governance, performance monitoring and regulatory compliance.
- Retail Financial Services – Extensive knowledge of the retail financial services sector, including regulatory requirements, customer journeys and key commercial drivers.
