The role: As an Assistant Management Accountant, you will support the preparation of monthly management accounts and play a key role in month-end processes, financial reporting, and analysis. Working closely with the wider finance team and departments across the business, you will help ensure accurate and timely financial information is produced while contributing to continuous process improvements and providing valuable financial insight.
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly management accounts in a timely and accurate manner
- Post month-end journals, including prepayments and accruals
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register
- Produce month-end and ad hoc financial reports
- Monitor business performance against budget and forecast
- Provide variance analysis and clear financial commentary
- Support departments across the business with financial information to help manage expenditure
- Build strong internal relationships with stakeholders across the organisation
- Support the budgeting and forecasting processes
- Work with teams across the business to gather inputs for budgets and forecasts
- Liaise with external stakeholders where required
- Assist with year-end audit queries and information requests
- Support the completion of National Statistics returns
- Support Management Accountants and the wider finance team with additional tasks as required
- Work in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the organisation from time to time
The person: We are looking for someone who is keen to develop their career in finance and build on their existing knowledge within a supportive and growing business environment.
Skills & Experience:
- Currently studying towards, or planning to study towards, a professional accounting qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, or CIMA)
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Flexible approach with the ability to adapt to changing business needs
- A proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and eagerness to learn and develop
- Experience with Sage Intacct is desirable
- Previous exposure to management accounting tasks or processes would be advantageous
