Job Summary: Altus Group is building modern, AWS‑native platforms and is seeking a hands‑on Tech Lead who combines strong engineering expertise with technical leadership. This role serves as a senior technical voice on the team, responsible for writing and reviewing production code, driving architectural decisions, and owning mission‑critical services end‑to‑end. The Tech Lead will raise the technical bar through mentorship, strong engineering practices, and clear decision‑making while partnering closely with Product, Engineering, and Architecture teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Ownership & Architecture
- Own system design for complex, high‑impact initiatives from analysis through implementation
- Take end‑to‑end ownership of mission‑critical services, ensuring reliability, scalability, and long‑term sustainability
- Manage and reduce technical debt strategically
- Design cost‑efficient, cloud‑native solutions
- Engineering Excellence
- Set and uphold standards for code quality, testing, observability, security, and documentation
- Champion automated testing and “shift‑left” quality practices
- Promote DevSecOps principles to embed security and compliance into development
- Lead through thorough code reviews, design documentation, and retrospectives
- Delivery & Collaboration
- Drive delivery of complex, multi‑phase initiatives
- Partner with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and Architects to shape the technical roadmap
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
- Identify risks early and proactively remove blockers
- Cloud & Infrastructure
- Build and evolve AWS‑based, cloud‑native systems (Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, SQS, API Gateway, CloudWatch)
- Own both application code and infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code, e.g., Terraform)
- Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines for reliable deployments
- Support incident response and continuous reliability improvements
- Mentorship & Team Enablement
- Provide technical mentorship and architectural guidance
- Support hiring and onboarding of engineers
- Encourage thoughtful adoption of AI‑assisted development tools
Key Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Senior Engineer owning complex systems in production
- Strong hands‑on AWS experience and cloud‑native architecture expertise
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Java, Node.js, etc.)
- Deep understanding of system design, distributed systems, scalability, APIs, and data modelling
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar)
- Strong CI/CD and observability experience
- Experience implementing robust testing strategies
- Comfortable working cross‑functionally in Agile environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively in ambiguous situations
