Description
The Senior Director of Business Development is a strategic leadership role responsible for driving the growth agenda across the Western Europe region by identifying, negotiating, and securing scalable and profitable new business opportunities. Reporting directly to the Head of P&L for the Europe, this role holds full ownership of the regional new business pipeline, from lead generation to deal closure.
As a key member of the regional leadership team, the Senior Director will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the go-to-market strategy, forging high-impact partnerships, and expanding MoneyGram’s footprint across diverse markets. This highly visible role requires a seasoned commercial leader with a proven track record in complex deal-making, stakeholder management, and delivering sustainable revenue growth.
What you’ll do:
- Strategic Opportunity Development: Lead the identification, qualification, and execution of high-value business opportunities, with a focus on new partnerships, revenue streams, and market expansion initiatives.
- Pipeline Leadership: Own and manage a robust pipeline of opportunities across Walk-in and Digital channels. Design and implement targeted go-to-market strategies to unlock growth in strategic markets.
- Sales & Bid Management: Oversee the full sales lifecycle, including forecasting, proposal development, and bid submissions for grants and contracts. Ensure timely and successful opportunity closure aligned with business objectives.
- Executive Negotiations: Engage and negotiate with prospective agents and partners, ensuring alignment with MoneyGram’s strategic goals and long-term value creation.
- Tailored Presentations & Value Propositions: Deliver compelling, customized presentations that address partner-specific business drivers and demonstrate the strategic value of MoneyGram’s services.
- Relationship Management: Cultivate and strengthen long-term relationships with key partners and sponsors to drive repeat business and uncover new growth opportunities.
- Commercial Evaluation: Lead the assessment of new opportunities, evaluating revenue potential, profitability, and strategic fit.
- Performance Optimization: Continuously refine strategies to maximize new agent performance and accelerate revenue growth across the region.
- Industry Insight & Market Intelligence: Leverage deep knowledge of the payments and money transfer industry to anticipate trends, monitor competitor activity, and identify emerging risks and opportunities.
- Networking & Market Presence: Represent MoneyGram at key industry events and proactively build a strong network within the European payments ecosystem to support business growth.
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) strongly preferred
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or commercial leadership roles, ideally within the payments, financial services, or fintech sectors.
- Strategic & Financial Acumen: Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, business case development, and feasibility assessments to support high-stakes decision-making.
- Industry Knowledge: Proven track record in network development, sales and marketing leadership, and risk and financial analysis within a complex, regulated environment.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and at least one relevant local/regional language.
- Leadership & Influence: Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, lead cross-functional teams, and drive strategic initiatives across diverse markets.
