Your Next Challenge: Our Technology Journey: We’re at an exciting stage in our evolution. Having built strong foundations in traditional infrastructure and networking, we’re now moving towards a cloud-native future — re-imagining how we design, build, and run platforms that scale with the business. This is more than a technology shift — it’s a strategic transformation. We’re modernising core services, adopting automation and DevOps practices, and building resilient, secure platforms ready for the future.
Why This Matters For You: Joining us now means you’ll help shape our direction, not just maintain it. You’ll influence how we evolve from IaaS to cloud-native, work with modern technologies, and contribute to a collaborative team driving change. This journey will bring challenges, but with challenge comes opportunity — for innovation, for growth, and for making a lasting impact.
As Platform Engineering Manager you will own the strategy, delivery and operation of a regulated, hybrid platform spanning Azure and IaaS (Windows/Linux). You’ll establish an enterprise landing-zone platform aligned to Azure CAF while meeting FS regulatory obligations and sector standards. Accountable for SLOs, guardrails, cost controls, security baselines, DR and evidence for audits (FFIEC/NIST CSF/ISO27001). This role ensures the platform engineering team delivers secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure across Azure cloud and IaaS. Responsible for aligning platform capabilities to the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) while maintaining operational excellence for IaaS workloads all leading to enable product teams to deliver safely and quickly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and Execute the Platform Roadmap: Define and deliver the Azure platform strategy, including landing zones, shared services, and IaaS operations. Set and track measurable objectives (OKRs) aligned with business priorities and compliance requirements.
- Lead Platform Architecture & Governance: Act as design authority for major platform decisions, ensuring scalability, security, and regulatory compliance. Oversee risk management, policy adherence, and regular architecture reviews.
- Drive Security, Resilience & Compliance: Champion security-by-design and Zero Trust principles across the platform. Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., SWIFT CSP, ISO 20022) and manage critical controls for payments and data residency.
- Operate the Platform as a Product: Maintain reusable infrastructure modules, golden pipelines, and hardened images for consistent, secure deployments. Define and monitor observability standards, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Enhance Developer Experience: Provide SDKs, templates, and reference pipelines to enable efficient, secure development. Set standards for ingress/egress, DNS, certificates, and service mesh adoption.
- Optimize Cost & Performance: Enforce cost guardrails, tagging standards, and budget alerts. Approve capacity commitments and drive continuous cost optimization.
- Ensure Reliable Operations & Incident Management: Oversee patching, vulnerability management, backup regimes, and capacity planning. Lead incident response for major events, conduct DR/BCP tests, and drive post-incident improvements.
- Manage Secure Connectivity & Data Integration: Approve network designs and enforce secure, efficient data flows. Define integration patterns and ensure data protection, lineage, and compliance.
- Control Access & Segregation of Duties: Implement privileged access management, just-in-time admin access, and enforce separation between platform and application teams.
- Oversee Change & Release Management: Approve change windows, enforce progressive rollout strategies, and ensure all changes follow CI/CD best practices.
- Support Talent Development & Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture engineering talent through clear career paths, learning programs, and technical communities. Communicate platform health, SLAs, and cost posture to stakeholders, managing expectations during high-impact events.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required:
- Azure & Cloud Engineering: Proven experience managing Azure platforms (landing zones, shared services, IaaS/PaaS), with deep expertise in governance, security-by-design (Zero Trust), automation (Terraform/Bicep, CI/CD), and architecture reviews in enterprise environments.
- Security, Compliance & Risk: Strong background in regulatory frameworks, identity and privileged access management, vendor/third-party risk, and security/compliance audits.
- Cost & Commercial Management: Skilled in FinOps practices, cost optimization, budgeting, forecasting, and implementing cost guardrails (EA, reservations, savings plans).
- Networking & Integration: Proficient in network architecture (VNets, ExpressRoute, private endpoints), secure connectivity, API management, and data integration.
- Observability & Reliability Engineering: Capable of defining SLOs, managing error budgets, implementing monitoring/AIOps, and leading DR/BCP testing and resilience planning.
- Change, Incident & Release Management: Experienced in incident management, progressive rollouts, and controlled emergency processes.
- Leadership & Communication: Demonstrated ability to define roadmaps, set OKRs, coach and mentor teams, and communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). Preferred: Master’s degree or MBA for commercial roles. Any of the following certifications would be advantageous: Azure (AZ-305, AZ-500, AZ-400), Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD), FinOps Certified Practitioner, ITIL 4 Foundation.
Personal Attributes:
- Strategic thinker with a product mindset. Calm under pressure, security-conscious, and customer-focused. Data-driven, collaborative, and an excellent communicator.
