Moneybox is growing rapidly. We have more users, more accounts, more money invested, more features, more code, more data, and more team members than ever before. We are looking for an Engineering Lead to help us handle this growth without compromising on our service or product quality. This role is part of the backend engineering leadership team. We are looking for an experienced hands-on engineer who has contributed to and managed the delivery of complex software across multiple teams.

Our Tech Stack

  • Backend: C# / .NET Core / .NET Framework (being phased out)
  • Patterns: REST APIs, Hangfire, MediatR, Entity Framework, Mass Transit, xUnit
  • Azure: App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Event Hub, CosmosDB, SQL Server, Data Factory
  • Tooling: GitHub, Azure DevOps, Terraform, Datadog, Rollbar

What You'll Do

  • Hands-on Delivery: Actively builds, reviews, and operates production systems.
  • Delivery Management: Manage software delivery across teams through both individual and team contributions.
  • Roadmap & Strategy: Work with the wider business to manage the delivery roadmap, identify dependencies, and communicate progress and changes.
  • Operating Models: Create and update operating models that allow the department to deliver efficiently while understanding business goals and drivers.
  • Technical Design: Own technical solution design for significant product features, software modules, and technical initiatives (directly and via delegation).
  • Leadership: Manage, coach, and mentor staff; define clear career development paths for team members.
  • Standards: Set high standards and continually improve internal processes, staying abreast of emerging technologies.

Experience And Skills

  • Track Record: Proven experience in a similar role with a background in hands-on software engineering.
  • Business Partner: Able to participate in technical and commercial discussions.
  • System Design: Experience designing, developing, releasing, and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience managing deliveries from conception to real-world use.
  • Team Building: Experience building high-performing teams, including structured career development and mentoring staff at all levels.
  • Core Fundamentals: Thorough understanding of OO programming, relational databases, REST APIs, and supporting critical live software services.

Desirable Skills

  • Distributed systems and messaging.
  • Microsoft Azure (Cosmos DB, App Services, Functions, Service Bus).
  • Infrastructure as Code / Terraform.
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
  • Has experience managing small teams.

Working Policy: We have a hybrid policy that includes 2 days from our London office and 3 from home. If the role states it is either hybrid or remote candidates must be based within the UK.
