My client is a global electronic market maker. The systems make markets across millions of instruments simultaneously. Every microsecond of latency has a measurable impact on fill quality. Every system failure has a direct P&L consequence. The engineering bar is correspondingly serious.

The work spans low-latency execution infrastructure, real-time pricing and risk systems, and ML inference inside hard latency budgets. That means FPGA-accelerated processing, kernel bypass networking, sub-nanosecond profiling, distributed systems at extreme throughput, and deploying models into production where determinism and latency are hard constraints.

The finance domain is learnable. The engineering instincts are what they're actually hiring for. Strong engineers get ownership of critical systems quickly and direct exposure to production consequences from day one. The intellectual environment is drawn from the top of systems engineering, mathematics, and physics globally. Engineering is not a support function here. It is the core competency of the business.

Deep C++ and Python, a track record of building performance-sensitive systems, and the kind of rigour that comes from working in environments where being approximately right isn't good enough. Comp is up to £550k TC. One of a very small number of roles where the technical frontier and the production environment are the same place.

How to prepare for a job interview at Mondrian Alpha

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Mondrian Alpha uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
