A leading global investment firm is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer to join its front-office Trading Systems engineering group in London. This is a highly technical engineering role focused on the development and evolution of the systems that underpin live trading activity across execution, order management, market connectivity, risk workflows, and operational trading infrastructure.
The position sits directly alongside traders and PMs, but this is fundamentally an engineering-heavy seat. The firm is looking for someone who enjoys owning complex systems, solving difficult workflow and platform problems, and operating close to the commercial heartbeat of the business.
The Role
- Work across a broad range of front-office platform engineering challenges, including:
- OMS / EMS development
- Execution workflow engineering
- Trading infrastructure reliability
- Market data integration
- Position and PnL workflows
- Risk and operational tooling
- Platform modernisation initiatives
- Internal front-office application development
The work itself is intentionally varied. At any given time, priorities may shift between:
- Greenfield engineering
- Refactoring and modernisation
- Workflow optimisation
- Platform scalability
- Production reliability improvements
- Front-office tooling development
This is not a passive maintenance role. The expectation is that engineers proactively identify weaknesses in systems and workflows, drive technical decisions, and take ownership of problems through to resolution.
The Environment
The engineering culture is lean, collaborative, and highly ownership-driven. Developers are expected to operate as genuine partners to the business rather than isolated technical resources. The strongest engineers in the team are commercially aware, technically decisive, and comfortable working directly with traders and PMs in fast-moving environments. The role offers significant autonomy and visibility for someone who wants responsibility and enjoys solving real operational and architectural challenges inside a live trading business. The environment is more heavily focused on platform engineering, workflow orchestration, systems integration, and operational robustness than ultra-low-latency optimisation.
What They're Looking For
- Strong platform or trading systems engineering experience within hedge funds, prop trading firms, or front-office banking environments
- Deep experience developing production systems in C#
- Prior exposure to OMS/EMS platforms, execution systems, market data infrastructure, or operational trading workflows
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, integrations, and production environments
- Engineers who naturally take ownership and operate with urgency
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with front-office stakeholders
- Individuals who enjoy solving technically and commercially meaningful problems
What Makes Someone Successful Here
- Think independently
- Take initiative without waiting for direction
- Care deeply about system quality and operational stability
- Communicate confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Enjoy understanding the business impact behind what they build
- Thrive in environments with high visibility and accountability
Interview Process
- Recruiter Screen
- Technical Assessment (C#)
- Hiring Manager Interview
- Final Onsite with engineering and trading stakeholders
Additional Information
- 4 days per week in-office
- Hybrid flexibility typically on Fridays
- Direct exposure to traders and PMs
- Significant technical ownership and autonomy
- Broad exposure across front-office trading infrastructure
This is an opportunity for a strong engineer to join a highly visible front-office engineering environment where technical quality, ownership, and commercial impact are valued equally.
