Full Stack Java Lead – Leading Macro Fund – Multi-Billion Dollar Hedge Fund – Hands On Leadership – London
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior technical leadership role at one of the leading funds in the macro space. The position has arisen as the Co-CTO, who has historically overseen Technology Operations directly, now needs to offload these responsibilities to a dedicated technical lead. This is a high-impact role with visibility across the business, offering a blend of hands-on development and leadership.
The Role
- Take day-to-day ownership of the Operations Technology team (14 developers across London, Glasgow, New York, and Hong Kong).
- Around 30% hands-on coding, with the balance focused on architecture, code reviews, and technical direction.
- Lead a highly experienced, self-sufficient team (average 5–6 years’ experience) and drive technical excellence.
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders, including the Head of Operations and Co-CTO, delivering systems that underpin the fund’s trading and operational infrastructure.
- Cover middle and front office operations, onboarding PMs, products, and counterparties, and supporting daily operational needs.
Candidate Profile
- Hands-on engineer, ideally already leading a small team, ready for the next career step.
- Strong Java background is essential (10+ years experience); React and relational database experience is highly useful.
- Prior experience in banks or sell-side firms is valuable; exposure across both ops and front office tech is ideal.
- Pragmatic, commercially minded, and solutions-driven, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced trading environment.
