LAPD Consultants is a leading company in the Lighting Design industry, based in Hoxton, London. We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Senior Lighting Designer, or a Lighting Designer who is ready to step up into the role of Senior Designer. This is an office-based position; however, we are flexible and open to discussing your specific working needs.
The role:
- Use software to execute project deliverables.
- Be knowledgeable of the project stages (based on the RIBA work plan) and understand the requirements of each design stage.
- Deliver work packages in line with project deadlines.
- Determine and communicate achievable timeframes for project delivery.
- Utilise problem-solving skills to participate in the planning and execution of project plans.
- Develop design team relationships with autonomy whilst being supported by project directors.
- Direct, delegate and review the work of Lighting Designers / Junior Designers.
- Develop project deliverables autonomously, with communication of changes and project development to company directors and the internal design team.
- Attend client and design team meetings, sometimes involving national and/or international travel.
- Prepare presentations to clients.
- Present or support client presentations with company directors.
- Review construction progress of lighting installation at site visits.
- Issue survey reports to the design team with findings from visits.
- Develop lighting design solutions through comparative lighting calculations, research for luminaire alternatives, review/assessment of luminaire samples, and construction of temporary mock-ups.
- Understand and deliver technical lighting design packages for issues to the project/client team.
- Provide lighting design solutions that are appropriate to the client brief, budget and relevant to project specific lighting standards.
- Review cost estimates of project lighting specifications and adjust the lighting design to meet the owner's budget.
- Supervise commissioning of lighting and lighting controls programming.
- Actively develop design team and client relationships when it is possible to do so.
Requirements:
- A degree or similar educational background, ideally within a creative/technical field of Architecture, Engineering, Lighting Design, Interior Design, or similar.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally at a lighting consultancy.
- Proficiency in lighting design software (particularly Dialux), CAD, and InDesign. Experience of Revit is a bonus but not essential.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and to work as a lead for junior team members.
- Knowledge and experience in working with UK and international lighting standards.
- Understanding of the RIBA work stages and lighting design requirements within those stages.
