My client is a long-established independent luxury automotive business with a reputation for excellence in vehicle servicing, maintenance, restoration, and sales. Operating from award-winning facilities in Hertfordshire, they provide exceptional workmanship and customer service to owners and collectors of prestigious vehicles. They are now seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to lead their skilled team of technicians and oversee the daily operation of our busy specialist workshop.
The Role
As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of the workshop, overseeing the maintenance, repair, and restoration of high-value prestige vehicles. You will manage workflow, maximise productivity, maintain exceptional quality standards, and support a team of highly skilled technicians. Working closely with the service and parts departments, you will ensure projects are completed on time, to budget, and to the exacting standards expected by our discerning clientele.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise daily workshop operations
- Schedule and allocate work effectively across the technician team
- Monitor productivity, workshop efficiency, and job progress
- Ensure all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship
- Support and develop workshop staff through effective leadership and coaching
- Liaise with service advisors, parts personnel, customers, and suppliers
- Assist with technical diagnosis and provide guidance on complex repairs and restoration projects
- Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations and workshop procedures
- Oversee workshop equipment, tooling, and facilities
- Contribute to accurate job estimates, planning, and customer communication
- Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a Workshop Manager, Workshop Controller, Workshop Supervisor, or similar leadership role
- Strong automotive technical knowledge with hands-on experience in vehicle maintenance and repair
- Experience working with prestige, luxury, performance, classic, or specialist vehicles
- Excellent leadership and team management skills
- Strong organisational and workload planning abilities
- A customer-focused approach with excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to manage workshop efficiency and performance targets
- Good understanding of health and safety requirements within an automotive environment
- Relevant automotive qualifications, apprenticeship, or equivalent industry experience
