Hybrid Position. Please note this is a hybrid position of 3 days/week in our London office (Fitzrovia).
About the role: We built mondayDB ourselves since nothing off the shelf could power 250,000+ customers at the scale and speed monday.com needs. Now that monday.com is rebuilding around AI agents working alongside humans, every agent action lands on mondayDB and the next order of magnitude in scale, latency, trust and reliability is the foundation the agentic platform runs on.
Some of the group challenges:
- Four 9s of availability across the services we own.
- Aggregating data from 5,000 boards in under 5 seconds.
- Supporting up to 10M items per board with p99 load times under 4 seconds.
- Serving 100K+ requests per second.
- Enabling large data mutation in a reliable way.
- Importing and exporting data at scale.
What you’ll do:
- Own mondayDB’s infrastructure end-to-end.
- Drive the roadmap. Identify the bottlenecks, frame the bets, push the work forward.
- Push the limits of scale and reliability.
- Build the orchestration layer. Design the Temporal-based workflows that move data through mondayDB - ingestion, indexing, aggregation, recovery.
- Get the best out of every datastore. Tune and operate the right tool for each access pattern - DynamoDB, Cassandra, DuckDB, and the glue between them.
- Own production. On-call for what you build.
- Raise the bar. Mentor engineers, lead design reviews, set the patterns the whole group builds on.
Note: Prior experience with our exact stack is not required; we welcome people willing to learn.
Requirements:
- 6+ years building and operating distributed, large-scale backend systems.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems - storage, concurrency, consistency, performance, failure modes.
- Hands-on production experience on a major cloud (AWS preferred) and Kubernetes.
- Strong working knowledge of at least one of DynamoDB, Cassandra, DuckDB, or comparable distributed datastores and a clear sense of when to reach for which.
- Track record of running tier-1 services and meeting tight SLOs.
- Comfort with workflow orchestration (Temporal, Cadence, Airflow, Step Functions, or similar) and the trade-offs involved.
- A bias toward ownership: happy on-call for the systems you build, proud of making them boring to operate.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and a commitment to quality and simplicity.
What monday.com can offer you:
- Opportunity to join a well-funded, publicly listed company with big ambitions and strong growth potential.
- Competitive base salary, bonus, and RSUs.
- Private healthcare insurance, critical illness, and life insurance coverage.
- Pension contributions matched up to 7%.
