Monarch Education is seeking to appoint a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to join a primary school in Witney, Oxfordshire. This is a full-time position required to start in January 2026. The school is looking for a versatile and compassionate Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children 3 to 4 years old, and a strong understanding of working with children with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

About the Role:

As a Full-Time Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of pupils across a variety of focus rooms. A significant part of your role will involve providing tailored support to young children with a variety of needs, including speech and language delay, autism, emotional and behavioural needs.

Classroom Support:

  • Working alongside the nursery manager and room leaders to support the delivery of activities.
  • Assisting with classroom organisation, preparing resources, and maintaining a positive learning environment.
  • Supporting the room leaders with managing classroom behaviour.

Supporting Pupils with SEND:

  • Providing 1:1 support to individual pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), which may include but is not limited to: Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Leading or assisting with small group interventions to support pupils’ specific learning needs, including literacy and numeracy support.
  • Implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or support plans, adapting strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress against their targets and contributing to review meetings.

Supporting Learning and Development:

  • Supporting pupils’ engagement in learning activities, encouraging independence and participation.
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Providing emotional support and promoting positive social interactions among pupils.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Working effectively as part of the team, collaborating with specialists and other support staff.
  • Communicating relevant information about pupil progress and well-being to the nursery manager.
  • Potentially liaising with parents/carers under the direction of the lead teacher.

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Teaching Assistant with experience in a pre‑school setting and a strong understanding of supporting pupils with SEND. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a nursery or primary school, ideally across EYFS.
  • Proven experience and understanding of supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
  • A patient, nurturing, and understanding approach to working with children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Resilience and the ability to adapt to different classroom environments and pupil needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Availability to work full‑time, Monday to Friday from 08:00 – 18:00.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) or demonstrable equivalent experience is highly desirable.
  • Training or professional development related to supporting pupils with specific SEND is advantageous.
