About the Role

Monarch Education are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting pupils who are outside of mainstream education, often presenting with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to learning. You will play a vital role in re‑engaging young people with education, supporting both their academic progress and emotional development in a structured, supportive setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
  • Support pupils who may be disengaged from education or at risk of exclusion
  • Assist in delivering individualised learning programmes tailored to each student
  • Implement behaviour management strategies and de‑escalation techniques
  • Support emotional regulation, resilience, and social skills development
  • Work closely with teaching staff and wider professionals to support pupil outcomes
  • Promote a safe, consistent and structured learning environment
  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and attendance

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working within PRU, alternative provision or SEMH settings (Desirable)
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive relationships quickly
  • Confident supporting pupils with challenging behaviour and emotional needs
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Desirable

  • Team Teach, PRICE or similar de‑escalation training
  • Experience working with excluded pupils or those at risk of exclusion
  • Background in youth work, care, mentoring or alternative education
  • Understanding of trauma‑informed approaches or restorative practices
