We are seeking a resilient and dedicated Teaching Assistant to work within a Secondary Alternative Provision setting, supporting students who require additional support outside of mainstream education. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference, working with young people who may face Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, or barriers to learning. You will play a key role in re‑engaging students with education, promoting positive behaviour, and supporting their personal and academic development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to secondary-aged pupils
- Support students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour
- Assist in delivering tailored and engaging learning activities
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
- Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
- Support pupils to re-engage with education and achieve their goals
- Work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times
Requirements
- Experience working with young people, ideally within education or support settings
- Strong behaviour management skills
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build strong relationships and act as a positive role model
- Passion for supporting vulnerable or disengaged students
Desirable
- Experience working in alternative provision, PRU, or SEN settings
- Knowledge of SEMH and behaviour support strategies
- Team Teach or similar training
- Understanding of trauma‑informed approaches
