Monarch Education is recruiting a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) supporting students who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. This role is suited to individuals who are confident, resilient and experienced in managing challenging and sometimes high-risk behaviour, with a strong focus on building positive relationships and supporting students to re-engage with learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with behavioural needs
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour effectively
  • Build strong, consistent, and professional relationships with students
  • Support emotional regulation and social development
  • Assist teaching staff in delivering structured and engaging lessons
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and intervention plans
  • Promote a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a PRU, alternative provision, or similar setting
  • Strong behaviour management skills are essential
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Resilient, patient and confident approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable and disengaged learners

Desirable

  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
  • Experience supporting SEMH needs
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work or support work
