A well-established SEMH Alternative Provision in Worcester is seeking a confident, nurturing and adaptable SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their supportive team. This role is perfect for someone experienced in working with pupils who present with SEMH needs, trauma, anxiety, and challenging behaviour, and who is passionate about helping young people thrive in a small, specialist setting.

As a SEND HLTA, you will work closely with the class teacher to support teaching and learning within small class groups. You’ll help create a stable, consistent and engaging environment for pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support.

Your role will include:

  • Delivering academic, social, emotional and personal development interventions
  • Supporting pupils with trauma, anxiety, dysregulation and challenging behaviour
  • Using trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches
  • Providing flexible support across different classes and subjects – no two days are the same!
  • Covering lessons or leading small groups when required
  • Working as part of a strong, collaborative team with the teacher
  • Contributing to a personalised learning experience tailored to individual needs

Small class sizes allow you to build positive relationships and make a meaningful impact every day.

We welcome applications from strong practitioners with real hands-on experience supporting pupils with additional needs. A formal HLTA qualification is desirable but not essential. What matters most is your:

  • Experience within an SEMH, AP or SEND environment
  • Confidence supporting a range of needs and behaviours
  • Resilience, patience, and calm approach
  • Ability to adapt and “dip in” across subjects, age groups and activities
  • Confidence to lead interventions or cover learning when needed
  • Team-oriented mindset and proactive attitude

A warm, welcoming and committed staff team, small class sizes for meaningful support and relationship-building, and a school culture rooted in positivity, understanding and individualised support await you.
