About the Role

We are seeking a resilient and dedicated Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist secondary setting, supporting students who require additional support to access education and achieve their full potential.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people and supporting those who may experience Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, additional learning needs, behavioural challenges, or barriers to education.

You will play a key role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development, helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment where all learners can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support
  • Support students with SEMH needs, additional learning needs, and behavioural challenges.
  • Assist in delivering tailored and engaging learning activities.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies.
  • Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Support pupils to engage positively with education and achieve their goals.
  • Work closely with teaching staff, support staff, and pastoral teams.
  • Maintain accurate records where required.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people, ideally within education settings
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and act as a positive role model.
  • Passion for supporting students with diverse needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.

Desirable

  • Experience working within specialist education, SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision settings.
  • Knowledge of SEMH and behaviour support strategies.
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed approaches.
  • Experience supporting students with additional learning needs.
