Monarch Education are working with a secondary school in Perry Barr to appoint a SENDCo on a full-time, long-term basis starting in September. The SENDCo will lead the development of SEND provision and manage the day-to-day coordination of support for students with additional needs.

Job Specification

Main Purpose

  • Lead SEND policy and provision across the school
  • Manage the delivery of SEND support
  • Work with staff, parents, and external agencies

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review SEND provision
  • Ensure SEND policy is implemented and aligned with school improvement plans
  • Contribute to school evaluation and planning
  • Monitor the use of SEND funding

Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain the SEND register and provision mapping
  • Identify students with SEND and coordinate support
  • Track and analyse student progress
  • Keep accurate records

EHCP Responsibilities

  • Manage EHCP processes and annual reviews
  • Ensure compliance with SEND requirements
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and professionals

Teaching and Learning Support

  • Advise staff on supporting SEND students
  • Promote the graduated approach to SEND support
  • Support differentiation in the classroom

Partnership Working

  • Act as the main contact for external agencies and the local authority
  • Work with external professionals
  • Communicate with parents and carers

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Experience working with SEND in a secondary school
  • Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCo)
