Rate: Main Pay Scale M1-M6 or UPR, with a TLR for Literacy Leadership

Monarch Education, part of Affinity Workforce, are working in close partnership with a high‑performing and ambitious primary school seeking to appoint an exemplary experienced Class Teacher with responsibility for leading Literacy across the school from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding literacy practitioner who combines exceptional classroom practice with the expertise, vision and leadership skills to drive excellence in reading, phonics and writing. The successful candidate will play a central role in developing a coherent, high‑quality whole‑school literacy curriculum and embedding a strong culture of reading for pleasure.

This role is ideal for a passionate, knowledgeable and inspiring teacher‑leader who is committed to improving outcomes for all pupils and supporting colleagues to deliver consistently high‑quality literacy teaching.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Hold QTS and be an excellent classroom teacher with a proven track record of strong outcomes in reading and writing
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of high‑quality primary literacy pedagogy
  • Model consistently high‑quality teaching practice
  • Have expert knowledge of early reading, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary development
  • Possess extensive, up‑to‑date understanding of systematic synthetic phonics
  • Be confident in analysing attainment data to identify priorities and impact
  • Lead targeted interventions and coach staff to ensure consistency and effectiveness
  • Be committed to building a whole‑school culture of reading for pleasure
  • Demonstrate strong expertise in writing pedagogy, including grammar, sentence structure and composition
  • Model high‑quality writing and support staff to plan, teach and assess writing effectively
  • Support the development of clear progression and high expectations across the school
  • Be an inspiring and supportive leader who motivates colleagues through coaching and CPD
  • Have experience of monitoring standards, evaluating impact and driving curriculum improvement
  • Be reflective, organised and focused on continuous improvement
  • Be enthusiastic, creative and collaborative
