Monarch Education is currently recruiting dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across a range of primary schools, secondary schools, and specialist provisions in Bicester.

We are seeking both full-time and part-time staff who are passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. Whether you are an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or have transferable experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults, we would love to hear from you.

This is an ongoing opportunity with immediate starts available.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a variety of additional needs, both inside and outside of the classroom. You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and wider support staff to provide tailored support that enables pupils to engage with learning and achieve their individual targets.

You may support pupils with:

• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
• Physical disabilities
• Complex needs and associated behaviours

Your responsibilities may include:

• Providing one-to-one support for pupils with additional needs.
• Supporting small intervention groups.
• Assisting teachers in delivering differentiated learning activities.
• Encouraging pupil engagement and participation in lessons.
• Implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
• Supporting communication, emotional regulation, and social development.
• Managing challenging behaviours using positive behaviour techniques.
• Assisting with personal care where required.
• Supporting pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, and educational visits.




• Recording observations and contributing to pupil progress discussions.




• Maintaining a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.

A Day in the Life of a Supply SEN Teaching Assistant

Working as a supply SEN Teaching Assistant offers flexibility, variety, and the opportunity to gain experience across different settings while supporting pupils who genuinely benefit from your help.

A typical day may include:

• Arriving at your assigned school and receiving a handover from teaching and support staff.
• Supporting a pupil on a one-to-one basis throughout the school day.




• Assisting students who may need additional encouragement to participate in lessons.
• Supporting learning through visual aids, sensory resources, and adapted activities.




• Helping pupils develop social skills and build positive relationships.
• Managing behaviour positively and consistently in line with the school’s policies.




• Supporting pupils during transitions between lessons and activities.




• Working alongside teachers, therapists, and SEN professionals to meet individual needs.




• Ensuring pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.




• Finishing each day knowing you have helped a young person achieve success, no matter how big or small.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, support, youth work, or childcare setting.




• A genuine passion for supporting individuals with special educational needs.




• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.




• Patience, resilience, and a positive attitude.




• The ability to adapt to different school environments.




• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.




• An enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.




• References covering the last 2 years of employment, education, or voluntary work.




• The right to work in the UK.




• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities.




• Reliable, professional, and committed to supporting pupil outcomes.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Teaching Assistant Level 2 or Level 3 qualification.




• Experience supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs.




• Degree in Education, Psychology, Child Development, or a related subject.




• Experience working in specialist schools or alternative provisions.




• Team Teach, MAPA, or other positive behaviour management training.




• Knowledge of EHCPs and SEN support strategies.




• Experience delivering interventions or structured support programmes.
