Behaviour Mentor
Location: NG1
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary to Permanent Opportunity
Are you the type of person who can build rapport, bring energy to a room, and set clear boundaries when they matter?
Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist Alternative Provision in Nottingham, seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to support young people who require additional guidance, structure and positive role models to help them succeed.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive and nurturing setting that specialises in helping students who may have struggled in mainstream education. The provision focuses on rebuilding confidence, improving engagement, and helping pupils develop the skills they need to achieve positive outcomes both inside and outside of the classroom.
The young people you will support may present with SEMH needs, Autism (ASD), ADHD, anxiety, attachment difficulties, trauma-related needs, and behaviours that challenge. Success in this role comes from building genuine relationships, remaining calm under pressure, and finding the right balance between empathy, humour and consistency.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a vital role in supporting learners both academically and emotionally.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Building positive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Encouraging engagement in learning and daily activities.
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Acting as a positive role model.
- Using de-escalation and behaviour management strategies.
- Working closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and external professionals.
- Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence.
- Creating a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience working with children or young people.
- Can build strong relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
- Has a good sense of humour and can use their personality to engage students.
- Is confident setting firm expectations and following through consistently.
- Remains calm, patient and resilient in challenging situations.
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understands the importance of structure, routine and positive behaviour support.
- Is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
- Can be both approachable and authoritative when required.
Desirable Experience
Applications are particularly welcomed from candidates with experience in:
- Alternative Provision
- SEMH Schools
- PRUs (Pupil Referral Units)
- Behaviour Mentor roles
- Youth Work
- Children’s Residential Care
- Support Work
- Inclusion and Pastoral Support
- Sports Coaching
- Mental Health Support Services
What the Setting Offers
- Small class sizes and personalised support.
- A supportive and experienced leadership team.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- Strong pastoral support systems.
- A collaborative and welcoming staff team.
- Opportunities for career progression.
- Potential for a permanent contract.
- A rewarding role where no two days are the same.
Why Apply?
This is far more than a Behaviour Mentor role. It’s an opportunity to become a positive influence in a young person’s life, helping them navigate challenges, build confidence and achieve success.
If you’re resilient, personable, able to have a laugh with students while maintaining firm boundaries, and passionate about making a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you.
