About the Role

Monarch Education are currently recruiting for a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEN school in Nottingham. This role involves providing dedicated, individualised support to a pupil with complex additional needs, helping them to access education and develop key life skills. The setting supports pupils with a range of needs including SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health), ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition), and complex learning difficulties, and focuses on creating a nurturing, structured environment where every child can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support tailored to the individual needs of the pupil
  • Support learning, emotional regulation and engagement in lessons
  • Implement personalised support strategies and care plans
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Assist with behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
  • Work closely with the class teacher and wider SEND team
  • Support the development of social skills and independence

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEND
  • Confidence supporting challenging behaviour and complex needs
  • A patient, resilient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable pupils

Desirable

  • Experience working 1:1 in a specialist or alternative provision setting
  • Knowledge of Autism (ASC) and/or SEMH needs
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or support work
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
