We're looking for a Food Preparation & Nutrition Teacher (Design Technology) for a long-term, full-time role in Cheltenham starting in September. This position would suit a teacher who can deliver engaging, practical Food Preparation & Nutrition lessons and help pupils build strong knowledge of nutrition, hygiene, safety, and cooking skills. You'll be teaching primarily at Key Stage 4/5, with the flexibility to contribute to wider DT where needed, and you'll take an active role in the life of the school.

The Role:

  • Plan and deliver engaging Food Preparation & Nutrition lessons (KS4/KS5), balancing theory with high-quality practical work.
  • Teach and reinforce excellent standards of food hygiene, nutrition, and kitchen safety, ensuring all risk assessments and safeguarding procedures are followed.
  • Prepare the food room for practical sessions (ingredients, equipment, demonstrations) and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
  • Assess students' progress, complete marking, and provide clear feedback that helps pupils improve practical skills and written outcomes.
  • Support curriculum planning and resource preparation in line with the school's scheme of work and examination requirements.
  • Where required, contribute to wider DT teaching and collaborate with colleagues across the department.
  • Take part in wider school life (form time, meetings, events/enrichment) and promote positive behaviour for learning.

Requirements:

  • QTS/QTLS (or substantial UK secondary teaching experience delivering Food Preparation & Nutrition).
  • A relevant specialist qualification (e.g., degree in Food Technology/Food Science/Nutrition) and teacher training (PGCE) is desirable.
  • Experience teaching KS4/KS5 (or strong subject knowledge and the ability to quickly pick up exam/coursework expectations).
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene, allergens, and safe working practices in a school food room.
  • Ability to plan, mark, and prepare curriculum resources to a high standard.
  • Confident behaviour management with a calm, consistent approach.
  • A team player who is happy to contribute to wider DT and school activities.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply).
