Support pupils to build confidence, strengthen problem‑solving skills, and make progress in Mathematics through a flexible Supply Maths Teacher role at a secondary school in Bridgwater. This supply opportunity offers the chance to work within a supportive secondary school, delivering engaging Maths lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will help maintain continuity of learning, encourage pupils to develop mathematical understanding, and create a positive classroom environment where students feel supported and challenged.

Role Overview

We are looking to appoint a committed Supply Maths Teacher to support a secondary school in Bridgwater on a flexible or ongoing basis. The successful candidate will deliver well‑structured lessons, follow existing planning where provided, manage classroom behaviour effectively, and ensure pupils remain engaged and on track with their learning. This role would suit a reliable and enthusiastic teacher with strong subject knowledge in Mathematics and the confidence to teach mixed‑ability groups. You will be adaptable, organised, and able to quickly build positive relationships with pupils and staff while maintaining high expectations in the classroom.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Maths lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Follow school planning and schemes of work, adapting lessons where needed to meet pupil needs
  • Support pupils in developing confidence with numeracy, problem‑solving, reasoning, and exam‑style questions
  • Maintain a calm, purposeful, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Assess, monitor, and provide feedback on pupil progress in line with school expectations where required
  • Differentiating effectively to support learners with varying abilities, including pupils with SEND or lower confidence in Maths
  • Work collaboratively with department staff and school leaders to ensure continuity of learning
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and follow all school policies and procedures at all times

Required Skills & Behaviours

  • Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics and confidence teaching secondary‑age pupils
  • Effective classroom management skills that support a calm and focused learning environment
  • Ability to engage and motivate pupils with varied learning needs, confidence levels, and prior attainment
  • Flexible, dependable, and adaptable approach to supply teaching within a busy secondary school
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and pupils
  • Commitment to high standards of teaching, professionalism, inclusion, and safeguarding

Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable; experienced Maths specialists and instructors may also be considered
  • Previous experience teaching Mathematics in a UK secondary school setting is highly desirable
  • Confidence teaching across KS3 and KS4; GCSE experience is advantageous
  • Good understanding of the UK secondary curriculum and current assessment expectations
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
  • Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks
