The Opportunity

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Building Regulations Consultant to join our Sheffield office, working across commercial, residential, leisure and retail sectors throughout England & Wales. This role is focused on supporting clients in meeting their obligations under the Building Safety Act 2022 and associated amendments to the Building Regulations. You will play a key role in delivering Principal Designer (Building Regulations) services and advising clients on compliance across a diverse range of projects.

As part of our Built Asset Consultancy team, you will contribute to the continued growth of this specialist service area, working with an established client base while supporting the development of internal capability.

The Role

As a Building Regulations Consultant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering Principal Designer (Building Regulations) services in line with the Building Safety Act
  • Providing Building Regulations compliance advice across a range of sectors and project types
  • Undertaking plan reviews, technical audits and compliance assessments
  • Advising clients on their duties under the Building Safety Act and associated regulations
  • Leading and facilitating design team workshops to support compliance with dutyholder responsibilities
  • Supporting the development and delivery of internal training on Building Regulations and compliance
  • Providing technical guidance to project teams on fire safety and regulatory requirements
  • Supporting the growth of Building Regulations consultancy services within the business

About You

Essential:

  • Professional qualification: MRICS, MCABE, CIOB or equivalent
  • Strong background within Building Control (Approved Inspector or Local Authority)
  • Detailed knowledge of Building Regulations and Approved Documents, including fire safety
  • Experience in plan checking, compliance assessment and technical auditing
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with design teams and clients
  • Commercial awareness and ability to manage workload effectively

Desirable:

  • Registered Building Inspector (RBI) (Class 1, 2A-F, 3G/H or 4)
  • Experience delivering or supporting Principal Designer (Building Regulations) role
  • Experience facilitating workshops or delivering training
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and wider dutyholder coordination
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members
