Duties and Responsibilities

The Centre for Translation Studies (CenTras) forms part of the Centre for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry (CMII). Both Centres are also administrative units of UCL’s School of European Languages, Culture and Society (SELCS) and are all part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, one of eleven Faculties at UCL.
The Director will provide strong academic, intellectual and strategic leadership to CenTras. They will bring world-leading expertise in translation studies to enhance the work of the Centre in all areas – research, teaching, knowledge transfer and administration.

Key Requirements

The successful applicant will be recognised as a leading authority in the field of translation studies and be fluent in written and spoken English and at least one other language.
They will have an outstanding record of original research and peer-reviewed publication, including a strong submission for REF2021. In addition to providing intellectual leadership they will also have a proven capacity to attract external funding for research, and the capacity to develop exciting future research projects.
They will have a proven track record of academic leadership, extensive experience of postgraduate teaching and research supervision, and experience of academic administration.
They will demonstrate a willingness and ability to assume senior administrative roles and undertake knowledge transfer work. They will have a commitment to equal opportunities and the ability to work with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.
