The predicted salary is between 24000 - 36000 £ per year.

Reporting to the Activation Supervisor, the Activity Aide will assess, deliver and evaluate age-appropriate recreational, leisure, and educational programs according to the abilities and residents’ quality of life by using a resident-driven approach.

Main Duties:

  • Support and help provide a resident advocacy program through the promotion and respect of the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
  • Participate in plans, develop, implement and monitor recreation and leisure services to the residents.
  • Assist the residents’ participation by using the humanizing elements (pets, plants, birds, children, volunteers, décor, and programs) and support and integrate them into the everyday life of the residents.
  • Communicate with and support families in their involvement and participation.
  • Organise and implement activities for providing physical and mental stimulation as well as social interaction to attain the special goals.
  • Work on a one-on-one and small group basis when implementing activities.
  • Participate in meetings on clinical, administrative and/or educational issues.
  • Assist and escort residents to group activities according to residents’ interests and abilities, both within the facility and in the community.
  • Supervise volunteers when implementing activities.
  • Participate in the assessment of the residents’ recreation, social and family needs of new and current residents.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of recreation and leisure services for the residents.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary diploma or degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution.
  • Certification in Standard First Aid and CPR (HCP) level.
  • Experience working with seniors and providing programs.
  • Understanding of Alzheimer’s Disease.
  • Bilingual in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Capable of working as a team player.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Able to participate in off-site activities and a variety of religious activities.
