Join Birkbeck, University of London as Duty Security Manager (Campus Experience & Security – Nights) and play a key role in creating a safe, secure and welcoming environment for our diverse campus community. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time contract. Shifts operate on a 4-on-4-off shift pattern. The shift is 20:00-08:00.
As Duty Manager, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of campus security operations, helping to create a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. You will provide visible leadership to the night security team, ensuring high standards of service, professionalism and operational performance. You will manage rotas and staffing, oversee control room operations, coordinate incident response and support the safe delivery of campus events. Working closely with the Facilities Manager (Campus Experience & Security), you will contribute to service improvements, staff development and compliance with security, health and safety and data protection requirements. You will also support the implementation of Martyn's Law (Terrorism Protection of Premises Act 2025).
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Experience supervising or leading a security team.
- Experience responding to incidents and coordinating emergency situations.
- Knowledge of security operations, risk assessment and compliance requirements.
- Confidence using CCTV, access control and incident reporting systems.
- Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions.
- A current SIA Door Supervisor and CCTV licence, or willingness to obtain one.

Salary and benefits: £37,413.87 to £41,717.77 per year, Grade 4 on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated London Weighting Allowance. Contract: Permanent, full-time contract (39 hours per week) - 4-on-4-off shift pattern. The shift is 20:00-08:00. Appointment/confirmation in the role will be subject to completion of SIA licence training, including DBS check.
