About Moment Energy Independent energy is here. Help us deploy it. Energy should be free. Free from aging grids, fragile supply chains, and unnecessary extraction. At Moment Energy, we’re building a world where clean power is abundant, affordable, and uninterrupted for everyone. The world doesn’t need another promise about energy; it needs proof that a freer future is possible. Moment Energy is the pragmatic liberator of power, the only company certified to turn the largest untapped energy supply into independent energy. Now is the moment. While the industry scraps millions of batteries with decades of life left, we put them to work by repurposing large-format batteries into advanced battery energy storage systems that deliver real-world impact. We were told second-life batteries would never be safe enough or scalable enough. We didn’t argue, we engineered the solution. Today, Moment Energy delivers 5x the energy density and holds the certifications required to deploy energy independence at scale. Now is the moment. Join us.

The Role

Moment Energy is looking for an adaptable and organized Lab Test Manager for our battery cell testing lab. They will oversee the daily operations and maintenance of roughly 100 ongoing battery tests, while continually striving for improvements. This role will be crucial for getting our new cell testing lab up and running efficiently. Simplifying and identifying root causes of new issues will be a key skill to demonstrate. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys making ongoing improvements to processes and would feel accomplished by organizing a large amount of tests for a rapidly growing cleantech company. This position will manage the cell testing lab operations, coordinate with battery engineering, and ensure that safety is maintained at all times. In addition, the operations manager will help build out the lab for each yearly expansion. This role does not perform in-depth data analysis or modelling of lithium ion batteries, rather enables the teams to get the most efficient use of each asset possible.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Battery Cell Lab Test Management
    • Coordinate months-long testing plans and perform periodic check-ins on the test.
    • Own the daily execution of over 100 battery cell tests, ensuring they run safely, efficiently, and according to schedule.
    • Manage, create, or improve new battery test protocols.
    • Creating standard operating procedures for other workers to follow.
    • Design and build testing harnesses and supporting test fixtures.
    • Help plan and manage expansion of cell testing equipment.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase testing throughput, reliability, and lab efficiency.
  • Safety & Maintenance
    • Manage hazards specific to battery testing, including high-voltage systems, chemical exposure, thermal runaway, and fire mitigation protocols.
    • Ensure that every test started has the correct safety limits included.
    • Perform regular maintenance on the battery cell testing systems.
    • Monitor the electricity usage of the lab.
    • Support inspections, audits, and compliance requirements related to facility operations.
    • Lead root-cause investigations for testing anomalies and equipment failures.
    • Support workplace health and safety programs, including facility safety practices, hazard identification, and compliance with occupational health and safety standards in industrial or manufacturing environments.

The Candidate

We are looking for someone adaptable; if you do not meet every requirement, but feel like you are still a good fit please apply. We’re looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:

  • 5+ years of experience in test and laboratory management.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration abilities.
  • A willingness to support R&D activities and process improvements.
  • Writing and editing standard operating procedures.
  • Creation and maintenance of test protocols.
  • Hands-on experience in a mechanical and electrical assembly manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in assembly, wiring, crimping, and the operation of power hand tools (drills, impact drivers, angle grinders, etc.).
  • Familiarity with facility systems such as electrical distribution and manufacturing equipment.
  • Willingness to learn aspects of battery testing such as: degradation cycling, calendar life, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and abuse testing (thermal, mechanical, electrical).
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs with or without lifting aids and stand for long periods of time.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, cleantech, or energy startup.

Nice-to-Have Experience:

  • Experience in battery testing and handling.
  • Familiarity with battery testing equipment: Arbin, Neware, Biologic, Sinexcel, or Novonix.
  • Familiarity with battery testing: degradation cycling, calendar life, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and abuse testing (thermal, mechanical, electrical).
  • Aptitude for light data analysis and experience developing simple scripts or tools for data processing and report generation.
  • Experience supporting workplace health and safety programs.
