Role Description The Optical Assistant role is a full-time, on-site position based in Spalding. The Optical Assistant will support optometrists and other team members by welcoming patients, managing appointments, and general reception duties. Daily tasks include assisting with pre-screening tests, maintaining accurate patient records, handling basic adjustments and fitting of spectacles, and supporting the dispensing process. The role also involves answering customer inquiries in person and by phone, processing payments, and keeping the retail and clinical areas organized and presentable. The Optical Assistant will contribute to a positive patient experience by providing friendly, informed, and efficient service.
There will be the oppertunity to progress into learning dispensing for the right candidate.
Qualifications
- Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
- Interest in optometry and eyecare, with the ability to learn basic clinical and optical procedures.
- Customer service skills, including handling queries, resolving issues, and supporting a high-quality patient experience.
- Attention to detail, accuracy in record-keeping, and basic IT proficiency for appointment and data management.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and adapt to a busy clinical retail environment.
- Previous experience in an optical, healthcare, or retail setting is beneficial but not essential; training can be provided.
