About Moloco: Moloco builds some of the most powerful AI advertising solutions in the world. Our name—short for "machine learning company"—reflects our core mission: democratizing access to the advanced AI that has historically been reserved for tech giants. Led by machine learning pioneers who built some of the most successful ad systems at Google, including YouTube's monetization engine and key search advertising technologies, we’re transforming how businesses grow and compete in the digital economy. Built with AI from day one, Moloco’s planet‑scale machine learning platform powers a suite of solutions for advertising growth and monetization.
The Impact You’ll Be Contributing to Moloco: Moloco Commerce Media (MCM) enables marketplaces to leverage recent advances in AI to deliver highly relevant ads powered by first‑party data. MCM has established strong product‑market fit and is a key growth engine for Moloco as we expand our footprint with leading global and regional commerce platforms. As a Staff Data Scientist on the MCM team in London, you will be the regional Data Science Tech Lead for MCM in Europe. In this role, you will accelerate MCM’s expansion by acting as a strategic technical partner to cross‑functional stakeholders —directly leading the onboarding and optimisation of new marketplace platforms. You will evaluate the performance of MCM platforms across our ad‑tech stack (ranking, retrieval, and bidding), identifying actionable technical insights and opportunities that translate into measurable partner impact. By architecting the solutions that enable leading commerce platforms to scale, you will serve as the critical link that transforms European market potential into long‑term marketplace success.
The Opportunity: In this role, you will:
- Lead the MCM Europe Data Science Pod: Direct a dedicated team of 2‑3 scientists, providing the technical vision, project oversight, and mentorship required to ensure the regional team delivers high‑impact results for the European market.
- Optimize European Platform Performance: Conduct deep‑dive analyses using large‑scale data to understand platform performance, advertiser outcomes, and marketplace dynamics, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for product and business teams.
- Define and Evolve Success Frameworks: Design and refine the metric systems that quantify MCM’s value. You will lead the internal and external alignment on performance drivers, trade‑offs, and the "North Star" metrics that govern our ads system.
- Influence MCM’s Product and Engineering Roadmap: Proactively define feature priorities by conducting deep‑dive analyses that uncover high‑impact growth opportunities. Partner with leadership to translate these insights into a technical vision that guides the development of the MCM platform.
- Present Complex Insights to Executive Audiences: Simplify intricate data science concepts for non‑technical stakeholders and drive the technical narrative in Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs). Build trust with customer leadership through clear, data‑driven storytelling and strategic frameworks.
- Orchestrate High‑Impact Platform Launches: Lead cross‑functional efforts with Sales and Customer Engineering to ensure seamless marketplace launches. Help onboard, support, and scale new marketplace platforms onto MCM and deliver the post‑launch executive readouts that validate success.
- Raise the Bar for Data Science Excellence: Institutionalize best practices in analysis, modeling, and experimentation. You will be a force multiplier for the team, mentoring other scientists and shaping a world‑class data culture within MCM.
How Do I Know If The Role Is Right For Me? You enjoy mentoring and developing talent, acting as a technical anchor for a growing pod of scientists. You are a strategic architect who doesn’t just provide data, but helps define the "what" and "why" of the product roadmap. You are a trusted technical advisor capable of serving as a strategic partner to external stakeholders, turning intricate data narratives into high‑level frameworks they can act on.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 6+ years of industry experience in data science, analytics, or a related field (or an advanced degree with 4+ years of high‑impact industry experience).
- Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or PhD in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Mathematics, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to drive product strategy: You have a track record of using data to define feature roadmaps and influence long‑term business goals.
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience analyzing large‑scale datasets.
- Solid foundation in statistics, including experimental design, hypothesis testing, and various statistical analysis techniques such as regression.
- Excellent communication skills with experience presenting technical findings to non‑technical leadership or external partners.
- Ability to build strong relationships and collaborate effectively in a global, cross‑functional organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in ad‑tech, marketplace, or e‑commerce environments (specifically bidding, ranking, or auction logic).
- Prior experience in a client‑facing or consultative data science role, supporting external partners through data‑driven.
- Demonstrated leadership at the Senior or Staff level, including mentorship and setting analytical best practices.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams and stakeholders.
