About us
Mole Valley lies at the heart of Surrey. The towns of Dorking and Leatherhead are the District’s main centres. Our purpose built open‑plan offices are located in Dorking. We are opposite the Sports Centre which offers a range of facilities including a swimming pool, sports hall, gym, aerobics studio and café. The offices are only a 2 minute walk from shops in the High Street. For those who travel to work by car we provide free staff parking directly outside or across the road from the Head Office in Dorking and the nearest railway stations are just a short walk away.
About the role and Team
We are a small Team of 10 hard‑working individuals who are passionate about this highly demanding and critical Service area. Working as part of our friendly and supportive Revenues team, you will be handling inbound calls from residents, businesses and visitors resolving as many as possible at the first point of contact. Duties also include handling enquiries received via email and through our online forms, occasionally seeing customers face to face in our reception when back‑office help is called for and other adhoc administrative tasks. You will support a front‑line customer‑facing Service where priorities regularly change throughout the course of the average day. Our busy environment means that you will have a great opportunity to build your customer care skills while gaining knowledge of the wide range of services provided within a Revenues Section and the wider Council.
What we’re looking for from you
We are looking for someone that can hit the ground running so you will have experience of handling all types of Council Tax and/or Business Rates liability and billing queries with some previous Customer Service experience. The successful candidate will complete a well‑designed Induction Training Programme that will offer 12 weeks extensive mentoring coaching to build confidence and ensure that you have a sound understanding of the daily procedures that will be part of the job moving forward. You will also receive full training in the call handling process along with office‑based duties in the environment we work in. The role also involves administration duties and a high volume of data input so great attention to detail and accuracy is essential. The successful applicant will attend a 1 Day IRRV Introduction to Council Tax Administration Course and be willing to study towards the more advanced IRRV Qualification(s) available.
- Strong communication and empathy skills, with the ability to use a range of communication styles, including listening and questioning, to provide a personal approach.
- The ability to understand, coach and signpost our customers to our digital platforms.
- A positive, can‑do attitude with the ability to have difficult conversations and overcome objections.
- A good standard of IT literacy and the ability to update in‑house systems and spreadsheets.
- Ability to make detailed and accurate numeric calculations.
- Ability to deal with customers and external agencies face to face and by telephone in a polite, courteous and friendly manner.
- Excellent timekeeping with a reliable and punctual attitude towards work.
You will have at least four GCSE’s grade 9‑4/A to C, or equivalent, including Maths and English to apply.
Benefits
- A comprehensive and supportive induction programme to ensure confidence and competence.
- Hybrid Working – 3 days Office based alongside 2 days working from home each week will be considered after the Probationary Period has been completed.
- 24 days annual leave which will rise 1 day a year to a maximum of 28 days a year plus Bank Holidays in addition.
