Laboratory Operations Manager in Chelmsford

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Operations Manager to oversee the daily management of our laboratory facilities in the UK. This role encompasses operational excellence, regulatory compliance, health and safety management, client liaison, and team development. The successful candidate will ensure our laboratory operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with UK regulations.

• Supply Chain Management: Maintain adequate stock levels whilst minimizing waste and ensuring continuity of operations.
• Space Planning & Facilities Management
• Laboratory Layout Optimization: Adjust laboratory configurations based on experimental requirements, ensuring optimal workflow efficiency.
• Environmental Controls: Ensure ventilation, temperature, and humidity conditions meet required standards (e.g., Containment Level 2 biological safety laboratory requirements as per HSE guidelines).
• Infrastructure Compliance: Maintain facilities in accordance with UK health and safety regulations.
• Budget Control & Financial Planning
• Annual Budget Preparation: Develop and manage annual budgets (Capital Expenditure/Operational Expenditure).

Essential Requirements

• Experience & Education: A degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience in a lab).
• Lab Background: Previous experience working in a laboratory environment with some responsibility for day-to-day operations.
• Safety Awareness: A good understanding of basic UK health and safety rules (such as COSHH).
