The Senior Technical Services Manager (STSM) provides strategic technical leadership across multiple projects, overseeing the quality, consistency, and delivery of all building services activities throughout the project lifecycle.

Acting as a senior technical authority within the business, the STSM supports Technical Services Managers (TSMs), project teams, and senior leadership by driving technical excellence, risk management, engineering innovation, commissioning strategy, and client confidence. The role focuses on managing complex projects and high-risk technical challenges, leading technical assurance reviews, mentoring TSMs, supporting major bid opportunities, and ensuring best practice is consistently applied across the portfolio.

The STSM serves as the escalation point for technical issues and plays a key role in developing technical standards, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key duties required by Senior Technical Services Managers are:

  • Provide technical leadership and support to Technical Services Managers.
  • Function as technical mentor to assigned team members.
  • Maintain company technical standards and best practice guidance.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in managerial and mentoring role.
  • Minimum 12-15 years' experience within construction and building services.
  • Experience in traditional and design and build procurement is key.
  • Proven experience managing MEP services through the full project lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, public health, controls, fire alarm, ICT, security, and AV systems.
  • Experience managing consultants, subcontractors, and client stakeholders.
  • Excellent technical, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong client-facing, stakeholder management, and presentation skills.
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to assess technical and commercial risk.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Membership of a recognised professional body such as CIBSE, IET, IMechE, or CIOB.
  • NEBOSH qualification.
  • Experience delivering high-value commercial fit-out, refurbishment, and mission-critical projects.
  • Experience developing technical standards, governance processes, and lessons learned programmes.
  • Knowledge of BIM, digital engineering, and advanced commissioning methodologies.
