We are looking for an experienced Design Manager (Mechanical) to lead a talented engineering team in a dynamic manufacturing environment based in Derby! We are seeking candidates with experience managing mechanical design teams in machinery manufacturing, capital equipment, automation, or special-purpose machinery. This is a leadership role where you will oversee design operations, guide the development of innovative machinery, and drive engineering excellence. This is a Full-Time, Permanent position!
What you will be doing:
- Lead and manage the mechanical design team, planning workloads and ensuring deadlines are met
- Develop and communicate design strategy for new and existing machinery
- Mentor and motivate engineers, supporting professional development and appraisals
- Oversee CAD systems and design documentation (SolidWorks, PDM, BOMs)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to agree machine specifications
- Provide mechanical engineering expertise from concept to commissioning
