We are looking for an Estimator with upwards of 5 years' experience to join an existing commercial function within a Manchester based building firm who predominantly work as a fit-out / refurbishment contractor throughout the North West. Projects typically range in value from around a few grand up to £2.5 million, so you will ideally be comfortable and challenged enough working on projects of this scale. What you will be doing:
- Analysis of tender documentation to internal and external stakeholders.
- Site surveys and inspections, including creation of detailed photographic and videographic records.
- Preparation of professional tender documentation to establish clear project baselines, supported by CAD outputs.
- Identification and mitigation of risks, with implementation of effective risk management procedures.
- Recognition and development of opportunities to enhance project or business outcomes.
- Measurement, quantification, and scheduling of construction works to support cost and programme accuracy.
- Planning and execution of procurement activities to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Evaluation of subcontractor performance and bids based on cost, value, and capability assessments.
- Pricing of direct works from first principles, including labour, plant, and materials breakdowns.
- Management of communication channels, such as Technical Queries (TQs) and Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Attendance and contribution at meetings, including bid settlements and tender adjudications.
- Oversight of project handover processes, ensuring smooth transition to Quantity Surveyors and Contract Managers.
- Strategic resource planning at both project and business levels.
- Development and maintenance of supply chain relationships, supported by strong administrative processes.
- Input into bid writing and support for proposal development activities (minor involvement).
- Stakeholder relationship management, maintaining collaborative and professional engagement (minor involvement).
- Assistance in framework management and compliance with framework requirements (minor involvement).
- Record keeping and document control, managed efficiently with administrative support.
- Supervision, management, and mentoring of estimating team members and apprentices to encourage professional growth.
- Administration and maintenance of estimating systems and databases, ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
Pay: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum
Skills / Experience / Qualifications Required:
- BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying
- Minimum 4 years experience in a similar role within the Construction industry.
- Mathematically proficient.
- Effective communicator with sound decision-making, time management and organisational skills.
- Knowledge of JCT/NEC contracts and subcontracts.
- Thorough understanding of Construction Documentation.
- Strong negotiation skills.
